As we close another successful school year and release our students for summer break, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible year it has been across Cullman County Schools. This year has been filled with outstanding accomplishments, unforgettable memories, and tremendous growth for our students, faculty, staff, and schools.

We have celebrated excellence in so many ways—from state championships and academic honors to athletic achievements that have made our communities proud. Our students excelled in math competitions, Scholars Bowl, archery, basketball, football, track, and cross country, as well as other areas, demonstrating both talent and determination. We are also excited to celebrate the Hanceville Lady Bulldogs softball team for reaching the Final 6 for the first time in school history—an incredible accomplishment that reflects hard work, perseverance, and school pride.

In addition, all eight of our high school graduations were tremendous celebrations of achievement and opportunity. Watching our graduates walk across the stage and prepare for the next chapter of life is always one of the greatest blessings of this work.

It is truly an honor to serve the students, families, and communities of Cullman County Schools. Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and partnership throughout the school year. The success we celebrate is only possible because of the strong relationships between our schools and our families.

As summer begins, I hope each of you enjoys a safe, restful, and blessed break filled with time to recharge and make lasting memories with family and friends. While this school year may be ending, we are already excitedly preparing for the next one because I truly believe the best is yet to come.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back in August for another great year in Cullman County Schools!

Cullman County Schools is inviting students entering grades 11–12 to apply for the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. This select group of student leaders will meet with the Superintendent and district leaders to share ideas, discuss important issues, and help strengthen our schools and community.

Students selected for the council will have the opportunity to represent their peers, participate in leadership activities, build connections with other student leaders, and help inspire positive change across our district.

We are looking for students who are respectful, responsible, dependable, willing to listen and share ideas, and committed to monthly meetings and leadership. Applications are open now and are due Monday, June 15, 2026, as listed on the flyer.

Congratulations to the West Point Lady Warriors Golf Team & Cold Springs Girls Track & Field Team for winning the State Championship this year!

The Hanceville Lady Bulldogs Softball Team had a record-setting season! No Hanceville team has ever made a state appearance until 2026. They finished as a Regional Champion & placed 6th in the state! 

Four Cullman County Sophomores recently participated in the 2026 Alabama Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) seminar. Bailey Wilkerson and Dru Prevatt represented Cold Springs, and Hanceville nominated Madeline Watwood and Yoleth Trejo.

Congratulations to West Point Middle School for winning the 2026 Mission Alliance Drone Wars Competition, held today at Wallace State in May! Hanceville Middle School earned an impressive Runner-Up finish. It was an incredible day showcasing our students' outstanding drone skills—every school represented did a fantastic job! A special thank you to Wallace State College for hosting such a great event, and to the Hanceville High School students who assisted with setup, tear down and helped throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to the Fairview High School Robotics Teams and their coach, Beth Lockhart, on their outstanding achievement at the MATE ROV Competition at Dauphin Island!

Charli Aris, senior at West Point High, recorded not one, but TWO hole-in-ones in the same round. Her first ever, immediately followed by her second during our practice round for substate at Blackberry Trail. 

On May 5th, Cullman County Schools proudly honored a group of outstanding seniors during our Military Signing Day ceremony. These students have made the courageous decision to serve our country by enlisting in the United States Armed Forces, and we couldn’t be more proud of their commitment and sacrifice.

Braxton Stewart was proudly recognized during Military Signing Day at Cullman County Schools for his commitment to serve in the United States Navy.

Braxton will pursue a path in nuclear engineering, and was honored with an impressive $70,000 enlistment bonus—an incredible achievement that reflects his dedication, work ethic, and bright future ahead.

We are proud of Braxton’s decision to serve our country and wish him all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter!

Congratulations to the 68 Cullman County Transfer Academy and Career Ready Academy students who are graduating today with a two-year degree from Wallace State Community College—a week before they receive their diplomas from their local schools!

Both were recognized by the Alabama Association of School Resource Officers. Thank you for your commitment to protecting and serving our schools

Congratulations to the 2026 Class of our Aspiring Administrators Academy! These educators have met all year to grow their leadership skills, collaborate with district leaders, and deepen their understanding of what it takes to support students, teachers, and school communities at the highest level. We are proud of their commitment to professional growth and excited to see the impact they will continue to make across Cullman County Schools!

Congratulations to Dr. Shane Barnette for being recognized as a "rising star" during the Alabama State Department of Education /MTSS summit this morning in Birmingham. Dr. Barnette was the North Alabama recipient of the Outstanding Superintendent Award. We are so proud of his leadership and vision he has for our students, staff, and community.

Mrs. Cleghorn has served as an eighth-grade science teacher at West Point Middle School for 20 years and is set to retire at the end of this school year. Throughout her career, she has made a lasting impact on countless students and families through her dedication, patience, and love for teaching.

“She greets others with a warm smile each day and exhibits tremendous patience, kindness, and a true love for teaching,” said West Point Middle School Principal Blake Thompson. Her engaging science labs and meaningful lessons have helped prepare students not only for tests and assignments, but also for life beyond middle school.

Good Hope Middle School’s Keri McCluskey is also being recognized for the care and positivity she brings to students each day. Known for her joyful spirit and dedication in the cafeteria, McCluskey goes above and beyond to make sure students are fed and cared for.

Good Hope Middle School Principal Leslee Hembree said McCluskey helps create a warm atmosphere for students and staff each morning. When breakfast participation dropped at the middle school, McCluskey took the initiative to prepare and bring hot breakfast items so students would have more options.
