March Newsletter

As we step into a new month, we are excited about all the opportunities ahead for our students, families, and community. March is a time of growth, fresh beginnings, and renewed focus as we move into the final stretch of the school year. Our students continue to work hard both in and out of the classroom, and we are so proud of their dedication and accomplishments.

This month brings engaging learning experiences, special events, and opportunities to celebrate student success. We are grateful for the continued support of our parents and community members who help make our school such a positive and encouraging place for students to learn and grow.

Thank you for being an important part of our school family — we look forward to a fantastic March together!

Teacher Spotlight

Coach Skinner

If you’re looking for someone who understands perseverance, competition, and a little bit of chaos, look no further than Coach Skinner — our 7th grade history teacher at West Point Middle School!

As the youngest of four siblings, Coach Skinner learned early how to hold his own. In fact, he once wrestled all three of his siblings at the same time… and won. That competitive spirit has clearly stuck with him — he admits he doesn’t like losing any competition or event (students, consider yourselves warned during review games!).

Life has also taught him resilience. Before the age of 18, he had already undergone three knee surgeries — proof that he knows how to push through challenges. And if that wasn’t enough, he also survived being accidentally pepper sprayed by his own sister in fifth grade. If that doesn’t build character, nothing will!

When he’s not bringing history to life in the classroom, Coach Skinner enjoys being outdoors listening to birds — a peaceful contrast to both sibling wrestling matches and seventh grade energy. He’s also a devoted fan of Star Wars, and in his downtime you might find him playing games like Halo, Call of Duty, or story-driven adventures like Red Dead Redemption. Coach Skinner is also newly married and enjoys spending time with his wife.

This is Coach Skinner’s first year at West Point Middle School, and we are excited to have someone with his energy, humor, and competitive drive guiding our 7th graders through history.

ACAP Testing

In April, our students will participate in the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP). This state assessment helps measure each student’s understanding of key skills in reading, math, and science.

We encourage all students to take the test seriously and do their very best, as their performance provides valuable information to guide instruction and support their learning. Parents, you can help by ensuring students get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to school prepared and confident. Together, we can make this testing season a positive experience for every student!

Our ACAP testing will be April 14th - 17th.

Fun Fact

March is named after Mars, the Roman god of war — and it’s also the start of spring! Longer days, more sunshine, and new beginnings are all on the way!
